how to improve your homeworking environment

Working from home is definitely here to stay!

Before the global pandemic, you would be hard pushed to find many organisations that were keen on fully embracing the idea of their employees working from home permanently, or even part-time! However, a lot has changed in two years and today, a large percentage of the world’s population now work remotely in some capacity, including our own staff at Ohso Technical.

To celebrate the rise of remote working.

We’ve scoured the internet to find some interesting facts and statistics about WFH, hybrid working and remote working. Enjoy!

Plain text version.

  • Hybrid working is on the rise – The percentage of hybrid workers in the UK has risen from 13% to 24% in May 2022 and in the same period, the number of staff working remotely full-time has dropped from 22% to 14%.
  • 78% – The percentage of people surveyed who said that working from home has improved their work life balance.
  • Remote workers are getting more done! – 52% of hybrid workers said that it was quicker for them to complete their work and 53% said they have less distractions. They clearly don’t have cats that constantly try to lay on their keyboard!
  • 50% – The number of the UK’s biggest employers questioned by the BBC that said they have NO plans to return all their employees to the office full-time (24 organisations).
  • Improved staff well-being – This was the most common reason for organisations to use, or intend to use homeworking permanently (60%).
  • 54% – The number of information and communications organisations in April 2022 that said they were already using or intended to use WFH as part of a permanent business model. It’s no surprise this figure is high when compared to industry sectors that find it much harder to adapt to remote working because of the nature of their work.
  • Homeworkers love a study! – The most common area for homeworkers to work is the home study (28%) closely followed by the living room (27%).
  • 57% – The number of office-based UK workers that would choose a hybrid working model. Interestingly, the same article indicates that only 5% would choose to work remotely every day!
  • £44.78 – The average weekly savings for every employee in the UK that worked from home during the pandemic. NOTE that the highest savers were Londoners (£57.78), followed by the Welsh (£50.16).
  • 81% – The number of younger generation workers that fear loneliness from longer term home working.
  • 5 hours per week – The average time that people save by not commuting to work.
  • Flexible working – This is a top 3 motivator for job candidates in the USA (21%). The other two more important motivators were better salary and working hours (47%) and better career opportunities (27%).
  • 16% – The number of companies in the world that are 100% remote.
  • 6.44% – The number of companies in the world that don’t allow remote work.
  • 17.9 billion dollars – The forecast global market revenue of collaboration software by 2025.
  • Over 50% – The number of remote workers that started working from home since 2020.
